thoughts on Betterment?

Anyone use it? Was thinking about using them for to create a Long Term Portfolio as it's fire and forget and does pretty much everything on its on (tracks low cost mutual funds and spiders). Was looking for a second opinion or maybe someone has a better alternative?

Hey /r/finance, I want to open a trading account. Can you help me understand my options?

I've been playing around with market simulators for a couple years and want to open a real account. Who offers the best/cheapest trading platform for stock trading? I appreciate any/all thoughts and opinions!

Looking at getting into Futures trading and I have some questions

I've been trading traditional Forex for a while now but it seems like there are allot of you guys who are profitable in Futures trading, so I'm interested.
Live in US and already have Scottrade account which was bought out by TDAmeritrade a few months back and it's supposed to merge soon. I plan to use the TDAmeritrade platform for stock trading but it also allows Futures trading according to there website. Do any of you guys here trade using them?
Basic questions I have are:
1.Who do you use and why?
2.What's a good starter amount of capital? (I'd like to start very small and learn it)
3.Why do you trade Futures over traditional Forex?
Also any tips or educational pieces to read or watch are very much appreciated thanks.

Living Overseas, Have $x, want to invest. What are my options?

I've saved and accrued small amount of savings when I was growing up in Canada. I'm in my early 30s now and I've left Canada in my mid 20s. I'm not sure when I'll be moving back but I would like to invest that cash vs having it sit in my bank account not doing anything.
Has anybody dealt with this before? What are my options?
I've been researching if I can open up a trading account with RBC (my bank) and I don't think I can buy mutual funds, or open up RBC Direct Investing since I'm not currently a resident.
I have American citizenship as well, and have Scottrade to trade my American funds with. However I'm a bit hesitant to transfer my Canadian money to USD to take the hit on FOREX.
Would love to hear what others have done!

Next step after Robinhood?

I've been trading on Robinhood for a year and have been enjoying it quite a bit. It's obviously great for basic trades and what not, but I'm starting to get to a point where I would like to be able to do some things that are currently beyond what the app offers.
Primarily, I'd like to be able to purchase OTC ADRs (or the actual foreign listing) and start doing some basic option trades, potentially getting into some limited Forex trading in the future.
Some cursory research has me thinking etrade, td ameritrade, optionshouse, or scottrade are probably the best bets,
but was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or recommendations on what they feel would be a good "next step" after Robinhood?

You guys have been great. Now I'm stuck and need your help!

Hello, I'm crossposting this from investing
I have been closely following /personalfinance, /investing, /financialindependence(one can dream right?)
Through baby steps and through your advice, I've worked my way up to the point where I've eliminated all debt, all my student loans, and built up a 6 month emergency savings account. I think I may have also figured out my retirement accounts.
Now came the investing part and it's just been a headache. I have hit a wall and after progressing this far I feel like I'm just stuck.
Here's a background of where I'm at. I'm 27, making 35k a year sharing living expenses with friends and my SO. I put in 8% towards a 403b where my job matches the first 2%. My 403b portfolio I've followed an aggressive boglehead strategy (20% bonds, 30 large stocks, 30 mid cap stocks, and 20% intl stocks). This net me 6% last year, right now its currently at 2%.
After all living expenses and recreational expenses are deducted, I put away $400 as a downpayment on a house fund. That gives me about $300/month extra to invest elsewhere.
I'm really trying but I think I have just had a streak of picking bad stocks. I need help with investing this $3000 plus 300 coming in each additional month. I'm about to give up on stocks but after how far I've come, its disappointing to just give up now. I felt like my streak is over and I'm stuck in mud. What do I do?
I can't stress how thankful I am for these subreddits.

Will someone tell me why I should be using my 401k? I'm not seeing it.

Okay, obviously, I'm putting in up to my employer match. That's a lot of money to leave on the table.
But, I am planning to retire much before sixty. I'm 24. I invest in real estate, buy-and-hold stocks via a Scottrade account, and position trade Forex. My (employer match) 401k all funnels in to a default Fidelity mutual fund.
It seems to be standard advice here to throw everything in to 401k's or IRA's ( and is the top comment here ), and I'm really not understanding this. Don't 401k's lock up the money until you are in your sixties? What if I have no intention of working for forty more years?
Can you imagine having enough savings to retire on the income from bonds/dividends but not being able to because you can't access your savings?

Brokers with smooth withdrawal?

Everywhere on the net I'm reading that every forex website (including the top 3) has issues with withdrawals. Does anyone here make regular withdrawals from their broker? And if so, how long does it usually take and which broker is it? I went so far as to look into options trading, just in case all forex trading is a scam, but I run into the same problem everywhere I go. Even with big name brokers like scottrade and td ameritrade. Does anyone here actually see any physical money from trading forex, stocks, or options?
